Natasha Akery ('09)

The Department of Religious Studies was proud to welcome, Natasha Akery ('09), back on campus for our inaugural Spotlight Alumni Lecture on "Heritage, Identity, and the Biracial Experience" on November 29, 2022.

Natasha is an English teacher and diversity coach who designs and facilitates professional development for administrators, faculty, and staff on subjects pertaining to diversity, equity, and inclusion for Academic Magnet High School in Charleston. She also facilitates professional development for Charleston County School District English language arts and social studies teachers inspired by culturally responsive teaching and restorative practices. She was also a 2022 finalist for CCSD's Teacher of the Year Award.

Natasha shared her deeply personal experiences growing up a biracial Korean-American and how the time at Cofc and majoring in Religious Studies major jumpstarted her journey to self-discovery.
